Capecitabina Accord es el tratamiento en primera línea del cáncer gástrico avanzado en combinación con un régimen que incluya platino. También está indicado en pacientes con cáncer colorrectal metastásico y es el tratamiento adyuvante tras cirugía en pacientes con cáncer de colon estadio III (estadio C de Dukes).
¿Qué efectos causa la capecitabina?
Puede tener los siguientes efectos adversos si toma mucha más capecitabina de la debiera, sentirse mareado o vomitar, diarrea, inflamación o úlcera intestinal o bucal, dolor o hemorragias en el intestino o estómago o depresión de médula ósea (reducción de ciertos tipos de células sanguíneas).
¿Cuánto tiempo se puede tomar capecitabina?
Los comprimidos de capecitabina por lo general se administran durante 14 días seguidos de un periodo de descanso de 7 días (en los cuales no se toma ningún comprimido). Este periodo de 21 días es un ciclo de tratamiento.
¿Cuándo suspender la capecitabina?
Si se presenta síndrome mano-pie de grado 2 ó 3, se debe interrumpir la administración de capecitabina hasta que desaparezca el efecto o disminuya en intensidad a grado 1. Después del síndrome mano-pie de grado 3, las dosis posteriores de capecitabina deben disminuirse.

XELODA can cause serious skin reactions that may lead to death. Tell your doctor right away if you develop a skin rash, blisters and peeling of your skin. Your doctor may tell you to stop taking XELODA if you have a serious skin reaction. Do not take XELODA again if this happens.
Does capecitabine have to be taken 12 hours apart?
Capecitabine works best if it is broken down in the stomach when the stomach is full. Take it in the morning after breakfast and then again after dinner. The doses should be spaced 10 to 12 hours apart.

In a phase II trial of 163 paclitaxel-refractory patients with metastatic breast cancer, the overall response rate with Xeloda was 20%, with three complete responses, and the median survival was 12.8 months.
